Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull was recently sent to me by a US Veteran that is currently in a Veterans Home in the Mid West.   Though the critic's  touted the movie as one of the worse movies in history it gives this war vet a sense of faith and courage.

As I was preparing my Guardian painting I went to Ambleside Part in West Vancouver  and took many pictures.
In ever picture there was a seagull standing on the top of the Totem.   In talking to people who go to the park daily I was told that seagull never leaves.

So the Seagull got it's place in my painting partly out of respect for the bird, partly out of honor to the War Vet and partly because every time I looked at the Seagull in my painting I laughed.

I am  a stage where I am looking at the painting.  Knowing something yet needs to be done.  One of the Native Elders from this area looked at the painting  and said he would help me change the Seagull to an Eagle or take it out all together.

I thought about it for a moment and respectfully explained why I had I painted a Seagull.  He was silent for a moment and then said.. ah yes.. Richard Bach found a creative channel.  The Seagull will help go to that channel.   Impressive I thought but really don't know if that is so.

The  Seagull stays.
