“We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversation with people … involves courage and risk.”
-- Thomas Moore

I recently had a young man visit and ask about having a spirit name.  I suggested he not go out and ask others but  ask himself.  I shared with him that I do have a name from the spirit world.  One that I asked for and one I keep to myself.

I will also share that I have given my grandchildren spirit names.   On the day each was born I had a animal or bird show itself in a specific way.   Those names are between me and my grandchildren.  It is not who they are to the world, it is who they are to me.  A reflection of how I see them.

Names from The Elders

Raven Child - cause I know the Medicine and Play with it like a Child

Two Kettles Woman - cause I am trying to live harmoniously in two cultures, in two world and I like to cook for people.

Morning Woman - cause I need to get up earlier

Woman who Walks Alone - Cause I am so stubborn & independant and want to blaze my own trail

Can you see how much work it would be to live any one of these names.

Choosing A Spirt Name

I have been given many Indian names over the years.

I realize it is an honor for the elders to give me a name.  I have certainly been blessed with that honor.  To the elders, I have the deepest respect for them and their beliefs around naming.  I also understand that many of the elders received my name from the spirit world, a world I too respect.

I have friends that have taken on the name gurus and other spiritual elders have given them.  One friend has changed her name several times over the years.  Bless her.  The challenge I feel with changing my name is I take on a difference resonance.  Having  to be someone I am not.

I am having enough of a challenge in being Linda on my earth walk.  My father gave me the name Linda, "In Spanish it means beautiful" was his reason.  I honor him and his choice.  I shall  keep that name for my earth walk.

For many years I had the idea that I wanted to write a book. I have had the title for over 20 years.

My story is the story of the many wonderful and not so wonderful experiences I have add on my personal journey. It is a story of my search for the lifes purpose, holy grail, enlightment, or perhaps even God. The most interesting part of my story is when I got sick and tired of my story. When I was fed up with my dramas, my searches, my crazy making and chaotic urgings.

When I ask myself why I want to write my story?  I get a couple of answers.  The first reason is that I love to tell stories.  The second reason is I want to leave some words for my children and grandchildren.  I want the best for my children and grandchildren.  I hope they can see the beauty in their world, not limit themselves and feel good about who they are no matter what.  The last reason, at least the last I can think of in this moment, is I want to write it for me.

It is not easy to find someone you can truely communicate with and the three closest people to me, I could have shared my stories are all gone to the other side.

I speak my own truth in my story. I am tempted to say I don't want to offend anyone.  I have finally learned I do not care what anyone else actually thinks or feels about me.  I also understand that when I am offended I need to look at an issue, event, fear or belief inside me.
