Dancing my dance, singing my songs, painting my pictures, writing my stories, drumming to my own beat and praying .....................I do all of this in a good way.

Drums & Drummaking

"""I make drums and rattles with respect for animals and trees who have given their gifts."
Why I make drums? In the search for my father’s native roots I became fascinated with the drum and the teachings around the drum. The sounds of the drum seem to touch the very core of my soul. I also discovered while teaching drum making especially to the young people there is something that happens in the heart. I call connecting with the heartbeat of the mother. It is a simple instrument anyone can learn. The first beat one learns to beat to the sound of a heart beat. Sitting quietly beating to your own heartbeat is meditative and within a short time one can travel to amazing inner and outer worlds.

Generally drums are meant to be played and some have become fine pieces of art.  I make both natural headed and white headed drums. The northwest coast artists love the white drums as they make a beautiful backdrop for their paintings.

The round frames of the Drum are made of yellow cedar.  After 20 years I have not had one warp and I give full credit to the frame maker.
