Although my own heritage is likely Ojiwa I have been strongly influenced by the Northwest Coast Art and the Artists.  Generally I don't paint Northwest Coast Designs. This Eagle Drum was painted as an reminder of the inspiration I have recieved from the many wonderful Northwest Coast Artists that have blessed me with their art and their friendship.

Medicine Wheel Drum: This design was painted for a friend of  Four Worlds International Institute.

In the late eighties and early nineties I had the pleasure of working with Four Worlds and Phil Lane Jr through workshops. It was here that I made a committment to assist my native brothers and sisters to overcome their addiction to Drugs and Alcohol. Their philosophy "Starting From Within, Working in a Circle, in a Sacred Manner, We Heal and Develop Ourselves, Our Relationships, and the World."

New Design Developed for a Young Woman who overcame life on the streets and now after 15 years of raising a family and learning how powerful she is has decided to join the campaign to develop solutions for women, particularly aboriginal women in Canada, who are in need of resources to keep them safe and to assist them to pursue a "good" life.

Walking Bear
On the medicine Wheel the Bear lives in the West, the place of contemplation and introspection.  In this design the bear is coming out of the cave and walking to the East.. The place of new beginnings.

Yin Yang Sun Drum:
I have attempted to find something symbolic to paint on a Drum that represents the Tao. Yin Yang is a common symbol used. I have decided the TAO drums are the simple unpainted ones.

Celtic Design
Needed a steady hand for this one. I attempted making a Bodrum Drum once. It turned out alright but I think I will leave that to the wonderful Bodrum Drum Makers. I will stick to frame drums with Celtic Designs.

9-11 Tribute Drum

As I watched the towers come down on TV there was a a deep knowing that it was not what it appeared. I recalled closing my eyes and giving a big sigh and shaking my head at the extent some go to create a drama to tie us up in a world of fear. I painted this drum on a small 10 inch drum. Although some say it looks like a victory, my intend was to paint the collapse.

Drum for a Kahuna Shaman

We called it the shadow drum as he wanted to use it to help people to process their shadow.. I painted two as I was not happy with a small flaw at the tail of the turtle. It was distracting to me however the Kahuna Shaman actually wanted this one, unfortunately I had already shipped the other to Hawaii. This one I still have and it is for sale. 20 inch drum painted with acrylics

The Horse
I rarely make octagon drums and this one is from my early days of drum making. Think it was the fifth or sixth drum I made. Where it is I do not know. Think I gave it away as I often give the small drums away especially to children.  I love to see the children playing the drums.
When painting on the drum I use mostly acrylics which seem to stand up well despite the hides being oil based. The Horse Drum was painted in oils and was the 9-11 tribute drum.
