DR. Plays Harmonica
Eventhough this photo I had for reference was very dark, there was enough detail to render the painting. It was also a 2 mgp making it easy to enlarge on my computer screen and still maintain the detail.
The painting is actually slightly darker than it shows here as the background and the cap and vest disappeared in taking a photograph.

In some cases you will want to take photos or even hire a professional photographer. You have your subject it in a chair and take different angles. Fill the view finder with the person being careful not to cut off a body part or the top of the head. I recommend you take the photos outside if possible, not in direct sun but on an overcast day where the shadows are less intense.

When preparing to create a personal portrait, I like to discuss the person personality, so I can get what I call a feeling of their personality.
Sizes: The sizes often depend on the amount of clothing our background you want in the painting. If you look at he photos below the drummer, lady and the cowboy are 16X20. The harmonica player 18 x 24.
Portraits paintings in this style takes 8-10 weeks as they are painted in layer and one layer has to dry before the next is painted. Further the painting has to be totally dry before a final varnish is applied.
Shipping is the actual cost. You will be happy to hear that there is no duty or custom charges for original art from Canada to most countries.
Cost 1.35 square inch unless there is a great deal of details as in lace or busy background. I require a 50% deposit before starting a portrait.

Father Blessing the Child
I recently received this photo and was asked what I could do. The photo is a scanned photo taken 20 years ago. The best I could do with this is an impressionist style of painting. The client is happy with that and will be a beautiful painting of a father giving thanks and blessing his child.
